Words of the Gay: Aida & getching

In celebration of World AIDS Day, our Words of the Gay this week will touch on AIDS:
AIDA or AIDA GONZALES: Noun. Slang for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Someone who lives with AIDS is referred to as “has Aida” (noun used as possession). LGBTQs use AIDA instead of AIDS in conversations to avoid the social stigma that AIDS bring.
Example: Ateng, yung may Aida pwede naman pala lumapit sa Research Institute for Topical Medicine para sa counseling and peer support. (I didn’t know that those with Aida can go to Research Institute for Topical Medicine for counseling and peer support.)
GETCHING: Verb. To take or get something. This stemmed from the word “get.” This is used in Filipino only but if you can manage to use in it another language, well, congratulations! But for the sake of translation, we’ll use it in English. Variations: getlak, getlalu.
Example: Getching na natin yung naka-display bago maubusan tayo ng stock! (Let’s getching that item on display before somebody else does!)
Stay tuned for next Tuesday’s Word of the Gay!
