Washington OKs same sex marriage

After months of waiting, same sex marriage is finally legalized in Washington, D.C. It is the sixth place in the U.S. to allow same sex marriage, following after the states of Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire.

The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) and Lambda Legal are working with Nepali government leaders as they explore how to include protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people in the country’s laws, following the Supreme Court ruling that directed Nepal’s Parliament to stop discrimination to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people in 1997.

OPINION – Ang Ladlad, the Philippine LGBT party list seeking a congressional seat in the upcoming May 2010 national elections, was denied accreditation by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) for the May 2010 elections, on the grounds of “immorality (as per Quran and the Bible)” and “threat to the youth.” When will Filipino LGBTs have a voice in the legislation?

Gay-hate killings revive Liverpool pride & parade in UK

After 10 years, Liverpool is finally holding its pride march for 2010. What may have triggered the revival of rainbow pride among locals is the series of gay-hate crimes in the past 18 months, and while the hate crimes are nothing but deplorable, this only proves the LGBTQ community’s resiliency and talent to turn things — even awful things — around despite all odds.

Same-sex couple in Scotland may get access to free fertility treatment in early 2010, following a legal complaint by a lesbian couple against National Health Services Greater Glasgow and Clyde after the latter denied the couple on the grounds that they did not fit the definition of an infertile couple.
